The love story between Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip told in a novel

For over 70 years, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip have lived the perfect love. In April 2021, the sovereign had to say goodbye to her husband. This death has put the spotlight on their journey as a couple. A royal story that inspired the author Flora Harding for her new novel Before the Crown.

After the series The Crown which revealed a great interest around the British royal family, a new novel was released this January 12, 2022, to the delight of fans of royalty.

The plot of Before the Crown takes place in 1943, in the midst of World War II, and focuses on the beginning of the love affair between Princess Elizabeth and the naval officer, Philip. As war rages around the world, Princess Elizabeth finds herself face to face with the dashing officer she met in London nine years earlier. A young lieutenant in the Royal Navy, Philip embodies everything that is contrary to etiquette: instability, daring and adventure. But when King George VI learns of their relationship, it is jeopardized by protocol and the pressures of court. He represents the only risk she has ever been allowed to take. The risk that even the shadow of the crown will not prevent her from taking.

This book pays tribute to Prince Philip, who died on April 9, 2021, as he was about to celebrate his hundredth birthday. After his death, Queen Elizabeth II had to face painful trials: the Brexit, the division of the royal family after the departure of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to the United States, the health crisis or the problems of Prince Andrew with the justice.

For her part, the author Flora Harding is already preparing the release of her next book. It will be entitled: The People's Princess. And as you may have guessed, it will evoke the life of Lady Diana.
