The Palace announces an engagement within the royal family

Their Royal Highnesses Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz are delighted to announce the engagement of Her Royal Highness Princess Maria Laura to Mr. William Isvy, the Royal Palace announced in a statement on Monday morning.

Princess Maria Laura studied Chinese and international relations at the Institute of Oriental Languages in Paris. After an internship in New York, she moved to Shanghai in 2012 to work in the private sector. After two years in China, Laura returned to Europe, to London, to do research in a think tank, before doing a Master's degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). She then worked for three years at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) before joining a major philanthropic foundation in 2020 where she now works as a climate change analyst.

Mr. William Isvy, of French and British nationality, was born in Paris to a British mother and a French-Moroccan father. He spent most of his childhood in London. He obtained his baccalaureate at the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle. He then obtained a degree in finance from McGill University in Montreal. After his studies, he began a professional career in London in the mergers and acquisitions department of a major American investment bank. He now works in the asset management sector.

William is an avid tennis player and traveler, two interests he shares with HRH Princess Maria Laura. The bride and groom met in 2015 in London.

The wedding will take place in Brussels in the second half of 2022.
